John D. McKenna, O.D.

Dr. John D. McKenna has made the Indianapolis area his home for his entire life. He attended Mount Vernon High School in Hancock County, and currently resides approximately five miles south of his office. He earned a B.S. degree in Biology from Indiana University in 1997. Dr. McKenna then received his Doctor of Optometry degree from the highly accredited Indiana University School of Optometry in 2001. Dr. McKenna has trained under some of the finest optometrists and ophthalmologists in the region, having completed two internships in ocular disease (cornea, retina, neuro-ophthalmology, glaucoma, etc). Additional specialty training includes binocular vision, pediatrics, low vision, visual information processing, and contact lens services.
Dr. McKenna worked under the guidance of an Indianapolis based Ophthalmologist for two years prior to coming to work for Dr. Norman Young. Dr. Young had built a highly respected practice during his five decades as an optometrist. Dr. Young's reputation was built from his commitment to ocular health, compassion for people, and the overall well-being of his patients.
In 2004 Dr. Young decided it was time to spend more time with his Grandchildren and less time working. Having spent most of his adult life dedicated to his practice, it was a difficult task to decide how he was going to spend more time with his family, and still serve the east side of Indianapolis. He decided he should start a search for a suitable replacement. Dr. Young selected Dr. McKenna as his replacement. Drs. Young & McKenna worked together for nearly a year before Dr. Young knew that he had made the correct choice, and it was indeed time to move on to the next phase in life. He turned all duties over to Dr. McKenna in the last few months of 2005.
Dr. McKenna has continued Dr. Young's commitment to the people of the east side, and has tried to make no major changes. Dr. McKenna does not wish to lose the commitment to the health of each patient's eyesight as well as customer service. While Dr. McKenna will never attempt to compete with the large chain stores, he has made the commitment to quality and superior customer service.
Dr. McKenna and his staff are dedicated to serving you, our patient (or future patient), and strive to surpass your expectations.

Larissa Yates, Office Manager/Optician
I began working for Dr. McKenna in March, 2006 as an intern while I was in my senior year of college. In May of 2006 I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Care Administration, and I am now happily putting my education to work coordinating all billing and health insurance reconciliation. In addition I generally manage all aspects of contact lens care.

Kerrie Grissom, Lab Coordinator / Optician
I began working at McKenna Family Eye Care in 2003. I started at the front desk as the receptionist. I realized that I wanted to branch out into becoming a full time optician, so after studying the trade for a couple years I now am the one who is responsible for the logistics of filling spectacle orders and final inspection/quality control of our product. My aspiration is to provide the best possible product to every patient every time.
